Amex cardholders acquired online are 179% more profitable than those acquired through direct mail, says Jud Linville, president of the Consumer Card Services Group. “The profitability is driven by two factors,” says Jud. “The cost to acquire them is 92% less — perhaps not surprising; but most importantly, they generate 79% higher spending.”

A massive 91% of all email is spam, according to figures released in November by Postini, a company specializing in Integrated Message Management. Daniel Druker, Executive Vice President, Marketing, said the stat is grim confirmation that spam – unsolicited or undesired bulk electronic mail – is holding the internet “under a state of siege.
