The Members Project, Amex's hallmark Web 2.0 marketing campaign (which we've sycophantically covered on several occasions — most recently here), has been narrowed down by cardmember votes to the Final 5 Projects. The winning project, which will be announced on August 7, will receive up to $5 million, depending on the number of cardmembers that register over the course of the campaign.

As of today, it looks like the winner will be 'Children's Safe Drinking Water', which, with 16,488 votes, has roughly five and a half thousand more votes than its nearest rival, 'Teachers Ask, You Choose, Students Learn' (10,999 votes as of 20:55 on yet another forgettable Sunday evening).

In third position, with 8,426 votes, was 'Wind and Solar for Residential', in fourth place 'Restore our US National Parks', and in fifth place, 'Plant a Million Trees — Global Reforestation'. I'll be back to cover the ultimate winner next week.
