We all want to know what people do when they visit our sites, and chances are we've spent a fair few euros, pounds or dollars trying to find out just that. But dammit, these analytics packages are real expensive and a major schlep to understand. Page after page of statistics, graphs that have an effect similar to a mouthful of washing up liquid, and all so very dull.

Not any more. Website tracking tool Crazy Egg is set to change everything. Pete Cashmore of social network blog, Mashable, even went so far as to exclaim: "Wow! Just Wow. Crazy Egg will absolutely blow you away."

Among other things, Crazy Egg records every click made by your users and then creates a heatmap – see example, below – that's overlaid on your site, giving you an instant visual demonstration of what visitors to your site are doing, and which areas are the most popular. It's a great, and affordable way, for companies to find out which designs encourage people to click deeper, and which content leads to improved sales. It's optimization for idiots. Hurrah!
