In 2006, for the first time, according to research by Burst Media, people in the developed economies spent more of their leisure time online than watching TV. The company found that the average Briton spent 164 minutes per day surfing the web and only 148 minutes watching television. Meanwhile, research conducted by Citi Bank (UK) revealed that more than 70% of 16–24 year olds in the UK are using social networking sites and that one in five of this age group has their own website or blog.
